No ICO. No company. No VCs. Just the chain.
DigiByte is a proof-of-work chain that launched in January 2014 with no premine, no ICO, no founder allocation — and is still run by the community that showed up, not by a company that owns it.
Where Bitcoin picked a 10-minute block target for a settlement layer, DigiByte picked 15 seconds for a payments layer. Where Bitcoin picked one hash function, DigiByte picked five — so no single class of miner (ASIC, GPU, CPU) can dominate the chain, and no algo failure takes it down.
It has run continuously since 2014 without a foundation, a treasury, or a corporate address. If that sounds unremarkable, look at how few chains that describes.
DigiAssets — a Layer-2 asset issuance protocol on top of DigiByte. Issue tokens, NFTs, identity attestations, receipts, and event-tickets that inherit DigiByte's multi-algo security.
DigiID is the companion — password-less authentication signed by a DigiByte key, no server-side account database to breach. Both have been live for years, with reference implementations and open specifications.
Everything settles on the base chain. No sidechain, no rollup, no bridge — same design ethos as the Bitcoin Cash side of this registry.
DigiByte and Bitcoin Cash both keep money on the base chain. Different specialisations, same conviction that the chain enforces, not a server.
