Two registers, and only one of them costs
Your own list is free and always will be. Adding an asset to your wallet is a local,
private decision — nothing is broadcast, nobody is asked, no fee (ADR-0008).
Being findable by other people is the paid act. Inscribing into
the shared Katalogos writes on-chain state that
everyone reads, so it carries a small fee. That is a separate, deliberate step — including for
an asset you minted yourself.
Why this page derives instead of asking
A descriptor has seven fields and two of them are sixty-character P2SH32
addresses. Asking a person to eyeball those is asking them to trust a string, which is not
verification — it is verification-shaped ceremony.
They are not independent facts. For a canonical asset both addresses are a pure
function of four short values, so the wallet computes them and then asks the chain whether that
category's reservoir is really sitting where it computed. A rate off by one satoshi
derives a completely different address and fails.

ADR-0008 — Deviant ships no default registries. Nothing is on your list
because a vendor put it there. That is the point, and it is why the wallet owes you something
checkable before you decide.
