Published to relays as Nostr metadata. Independent of your handle — anyone can see it, change anytime.
Display handles as
Phone discovery
Linked: —
We hash the number locally and publish a Nostr claim for the hash. Anyone who already knows your number can find you — same tradeoff as number-based messengers. Unlink any time.
Address book
Open a .vcf export from your contacts. We parse it locally, look up any linked phone numbers against Hermes, and show the matches to add — nothing uploaded.
Backup
No seed phrase stored for this account. (created-elsewhere / vault / mnemonic signins don't retain the words)
Cloud backup
Lets you sign in with name + password on another device. Your password is the key; relays only see opaque ciphertext.
Hermes
End-to-end encrypted DMs. Your identity is your on-chain registered name — same wallet seed as Theseus.
You'll get a handle like alice.erm. We'll generate a seed phrase — back it up in Settings.
Works on this device, or on any device if you turned on cloud backup. Otherwise use seed phrase.
