Anthemus — the Bitcoin Cash DEX
The brand of the P2P decentralized exchange in the Deviant project: the trading venue (order book + AMM + cross-chain atomic swaps) for Token-class and cross-chain assets. Sibling to Potidaea (the ASM). Taxonomy: ASM vs DEX README.
Brand: Anthemus (Ἀνθεμοῦς / Anthemoûs) — an ancient Macedonian town of the early Macedonian monarchy, southeast of Thessalonica and north of Chalcidice; Thucydides records its territory bordered Bisaltia, Crestonia and Mygdonia. The root ἄνθεμον ("blossom/flower") names the fertile Anthemous valley — apt for a blossoming marketplace. Use plain "Anthemus" (the historical/geographic name) — not "Anthemus Sea" (the distinctive mark of an unrelated modern hotel in Halkidiki); a DEX and a hotel are different trademark classes, but the bare town name avoids any association and is clean in the crypto namespace. Fits the Greek line (Potidaea, Artemision, Athenae). (Verify USPTO/EUIPO before public/trademark use — not legal advice.)
Where Anthemus sits (inside Agora)
Agora is the marketplace / trading hub — the wallet's bottom-tab surface (the Greek agorá = the civic square where you exchange). Agora is the container; Anthemus and Potidaea are the exchange engines surfaced within it:
Agora (marketplace / trading hub — where you exchange)
└─ exchange engines:
├─ Orbital Swap (ASM) → POTIDAEA — backed MBAs, fixed rate, no pool, ∞ depth
└─ DEX → ANTHEMUS — Token-class + cross-chain IOUs, price discovery
Metroon (the asset directory *inside* Agora — renamed from "Spectrum", ADR-0048). Holds
Deviant's OWN assets in two lists: the free Stoa list + the paid Olympia competition list.
This is the in-wallet "see" of Deviant-created assets.
CoinSpectrum (SEPARATE product, own repo D:\Dev\coinspectrum) — a broad ALL-crypto
market-data aggregator (CoinGecko-rival; the whole market, not just Deviant assets). May
feed/embed market data into Agora but ships independently — it is NOT the Deviant asset
directory and NOT an Agora sub-component.
Anthemus is not a separate surface — it is the DEX venue inside Agora, beside the Orbital Swap (Potidaea). A Token-class or cross-chain asset routes its trade to Anthemus, a pegged MBA to Potidaea (ADR-0016). Discovery of Deviant assets is Metroon (the in-Agora directory, ADR-0048); broad cross-market data/explorer is the separate CoinSpectrum product (spectrum-crypto-aggregator) — distinct, different-scope directories.
Reconciled (ADR-0048 / glossary v2.9): the in-Agora asset directory persists — it is renamed Metroon (Stoa + Olympia), not dissolved into CoinSpectrum. "Spectrum" is retired from Deviant, leaving the name sole-owned by the separate CoinSpectrum aggregator. So there is no glossary divergence to fix: Metroon = Deviant's own assets in Agora; CoinSpectrum = the whole crypto market, a standalone product.
The engine pair (Potidaea vs Anthemus)
| Brand | What it is | Mechanism | Assets | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Potidaea | the ASM (Orbital Swap) | single-party covenant, no counterparty | backed MBAs (USDμ/EURμ/metals…) | fixed by consensus, infinite depth, zero slippage |
| Anthemus | the DEX (P2P exchange) | two-party: order book / AMM / atomic swap | Token-class + cross-chain assets | discovered by the market (curve/book), slippage applies |
They are complements, not competitors (ADR-0016 routing):
- A pegged MBA has a consensus floor → route to Potidaea (a pool would only add slippage + LP-rug risk to something already backed). Potidaea has no pool — backing is the liquidity (see potidaea-oceanic-liquidity).
- A no-rate asset (Token-class memecoins/shares, and cross-chain IOUs like τUSDt / εUSDC whose relative price is a market question) needs price discovery → route to Anthemus.
What Anthemus is (scope)
The Deviant BCH DEX — the on-chain, no-KYC, self-custodial P2P trading venue:
- AMM (constant-product) —
SharePairAMM(ADR-0030): pooled reserves,x·y=k, permissionless swap against the pool. Validated. - CLOB (order book) — manual limit orders for assets that want a book.
- Cross-chain atomic swaps — HTLC swaps (List A) bringing other chains' assets in/out trustlessly.
Anthemus is the hub's trading floor. The interchain settlement-hub loop is:
deposit (lock-and-mint → τUSDt/εUSDC, the bridge) → trade on Anthemus (the IOUs
swap against each other / against USDμ) → withdraw (redeem on the home chain). Source
chains are vaults; Anthemus is where the value actually moves on BCH — <$0.001,
seconds, offline-receivable, self-custodial. Validated 2026-06-28:
scripts/chipnet-hub-dex.mjs — τUSDt ⇄ εUSDC on SharePairAMM, price discovered 1.00→1.44,
constant product held.
Naming hierarchy (consistent with Potidaea)
- DEX = the generic category (a decentralized P2P exchange — anyone can build one).
- Anthemus = the brand of our BCH DEX build.
- Just as Potidaea : Orbital Swap (brand : generic protocol), so Anthemus : DEX.
User-facing asset naming is unchanged: plain USDc/USDt + a Ledger/Chain selector; the Greek prefix (τ/ε) is backend/docs only (wrapped-asset-source-chain-marker).
