The desktop card and docs now link the Linux AppImage, .deb and tar.gz,
say what the AppImage needs (FUSE 2), and explain that Pithos keeps s3d in
the home folder on Linux when the system paths are not writable.
Covers giving each job its own S3 user, the exported JSON, using it from
the AWS CLI, restic, rclone, boto3 and the Node SDK, where the endpoint
is reachable from (local agents vs cloud agents), the narrower folder
keys on Drives on Silent Mode, and why there is no SSH key: s3d speaks
S3 only, with rclone serve sftp as the bridge for tools that need SFTP.
The desktop card said "installers coming"; it now links the installer
and portable exe, and says what quitting really does on Windows (s3d is
stopped, and anything it accepted is already on disk) instead of
promising a clean flush. The docs name where the hashes are, what
SmartScreen will say about an unsigned build, and how the account label
is filled in now.
The Share links card described the old week-long s3d links; public links
at navigate.st/sia are now the feature that works for anyone. The web
console no longer says "source release coming" because the code is public
on the forge, and canonical URLs follow the mirror to silentmode.st/pithos.
Share… now makes a link anyone can open, so the docs say what it exposes
(only that file, decrypted on navigate.st to stream it), how to switch it
off, and that it needs no public s3d address.
Second SEO target after Sirius. Pithos positioned honestly as
"decentralized cloud storage you own" — the software is free, the
Sia storage underneath is pay-only-for-use (cents per GB/month).
Overpromising "free cloud storage" would catch Sirius-style backlash
when visitors hit the Sia bill, so the hook is sovereignty + 5–10×
cheaper, not free.
site-pithos-sia/index.html:
* Title / meta / H1 rewritten benefit-first: "Decentralized cloud
storage you own — Pithos". Keyword meta added.
* canonical set to /pithos-sia/ with trailing slash — matches
nginx's own 301 target (opposite of /sirius, which strips it).
* Hero copy leads with no-subscription, no-credit-card, pay-per-GB.
* FAQ expanded from 10 to 14 questions. Five new keyword-phrased
ones at the top ("Is Pithos really free?", "How much does Sia
cost compared to Dropbox?", "Is my data encrypted?", "Is Pithos
a good Dropbox alternative?", "Do I need a credit card?"); the
existing operational FAQ stays verbatim.
* JSON-LD: SoftwareApplication schema (version 0.3.12, price $0,
linked to Sia + s3d upstreams) + FAQPage mirroring all 14 Q&A.
Both parse cleanly.
* Top nav gains Compare link; cost FAQ links to the comparison.
site-pithos-sia/vs.html (new): 7-way comparison across Dropbox,
Google Drive, Mega, iCloud/OneDrive, Backblaze B2, Storj, and
Pithos+Sia. Columns for price per TB, signup, credit-card
requirement, encryption model, key custody, censorship risk,
S3-compat, open source, sync-across-devices, collab editing.
Includes BreadcrumbList + Article JSON-LD and a cost-at-size table
showing the 5–10× advantage at common storage sizes.
site/sitemap.xml: raised pithos to 0.95 priority (same tier as
sirius) and added /pithos-sia/vs. Trailing slashes corrected to
match the server's canonical form.
The page described Pithos as of 0.3.6. It now covers the account
switcher with free space, the three views and instant renames, the music
player, automatic upload of leftovers, drives on Silent Mode with public
folders at navigate.st/s3, the pithos.sia/<user>/<drive> address and the
self-updating footer, and no longer pins an old Theseus version.
The docs said hosting on Silent Mode was not open yet. It is now: a
section explains moving s3d to s3.silentmode.st, the encryption, the
sharing a plain s3d cannot do, signing up with a BNS name, and public
folders at navigate.st/s3/<name>/<drive>/<folder>/.
People who want to set s3d up themselves, or with an AI assistant, had
only the feature tour. docs/ explains how Sia, the indexer, s3d, users,
keys and drives fit together; every Pithos screen; the web console and
desktop app; every s3d command, s3d.yml, the admin API and where files
live; AWS CLI and rclone setup; common tasks, troubleshooting and
limits; and a brief for AI assistants with the rule that recovery
phrases and secrets are never typed into a chat. The Markdown is the
source (published beside the page for assistants, with llms.txt
pointing to it); docs/build-docs.mjs renders the HTML.
Pithos 0.3.5 and 0.3.6 show buckets as drives, give every user one, open pictures, music, video and text in a viewer, and keep s3d running across restarts. The site now says drives (with a note that S3 apps call them buckets), adds Drives/folders/files and Built-in viewer cards, and a FAQ on why single folders cannot be public or shared yet.
Pithos 0.3.4 shows and labels the Sia account and can switch and restore accounts; 0.3.2 saves keys to an encrypted file. New feature card, a Users & keys card that mentions saved keys, and two FAQs: what a Sia account, an S3 user and a bucket are, and how switching accounts keeps the old one's data.
Theseus 0.3.74 put Pithos in the left sidebar behind the vault PIN and Pithos 0.3.0 added the guided setup with a vault-derived recovery phrase; the site now says so: new feature cards, the Theseus card, the five setup steps, the security list and a forgotten-PIN FAQ. The steps grid also stops a long command line from widening the page on phones.
A home for Pithos on its own BCNR name: what it does, how s3d and Sia
fit together, the three ways to run it, a getting-started path and the
security model. Self-contained page with relative links, since the
gateway serves it under <base href="/bns/pithos.sia/">.
Live on Sia at bns/pithos.sia/, and pithos.sia is registered on chipnet
with {"s3":"bns/pithos.sia/"} (tx bdc48e0d6e78ea0d325b6d727a9e149d9706bdcd734e78d8ae66da1ead339fbb).
